This handbook is published by Ofsted to provide guidance for inspectors, local education authorities, local Learning and Skills Councils and other organisations on the processes and procedures used in 14 to 19 area inspections. The handbook is designed to be read in conjunction with the Common inspection framework for inspecting post-16 education and training (CIF) and the Area inspection framework. The arrangements for the future of area inspections are currently under review. It is anticipated that these inspections will be integrated within the joint area reviews as a part of the inspection of children's services. Updated guidance will be issued as appropriate.
