These are the types of adult learning and skills that you can search by.
- Adult and community learning
Adult and community learning (ACL) takes place in a wide range of settings and is aimed at adults who do not normally participate in education and training. It is often a collaboration between local authorities, community-based organisations and traditional providers.
- Dance and drama college
A college participating in the Dance and Drama Awards scheme.
- Department of Work and Pensions provisions including New Deal and Workstep
This is provision for unemployed people which supports people of working age to return to work. These inspections ceased in August 2010.
- Employer provider
Employers providing training for their own staff only.

Further education colleges with residential provision
Further education colleges providing residential provisions for learners aged 16-18.
- General further education and tertiary colleges
These offer education and training for different age ranges.
- Immigration removal and detention centres
These provide education for children, young people and adults temporarily living at the centres.
- Independent specialist college
A college for post-16 students who have learning difficulties and/or disabilities.
- Initial teacher education
Providers of initial teacher education (ITE) – this is also called initial teacher training (ITT) – train school teachers, leading to qualified teacher status (QTS), and further education teachers.
- Learndirect
Learndirect providers offer training courses at locations nationwide.
- Nextstep
Nextstep promotes learning and work to all adults aged 20 and over by providing practical advice on work and learning opportunities.
- Prison
Learning and skills provision in prisons.
- Probation
Probation trusts which provide services for ex-offenders.
- Sixth form college
A college providing post-16 education for 17- and 18-year-olds.
- Work-based learning
Work-based learning covers apprenticeships, Train to Gain and Foundation Learning/Entry to Employment.
