Children and families services: For Children and families services providers

Documents for a children's social care inspection

All documents and policies specified in the legislation should be properly maintained and available. You may also find it useful to share other records with the inspector which show how well you support children and young people.

The inspector will want to see evidence of work between the service and other interested parties when they track individual children’s progress using the records and data that we request to see.

Documents most commonly asked for by the inspector include:

  • statement of purpose
  • children’s/young persons’ guide
  • record of each member of staff
  • records for each child or young person
  • record of accidents
  • record of receipt, disposal and administration of medication to any child or young person
  • health and safety records
  • training and development records
  • staff duty rota
  • log of significant events
  • safe recruitment arrangements
  • procedures, including:
    • accidents
    • missing children
    • safeguarding children
    • complaints
  • positive behaviour strategy
  • quality monitoring records.
