Subject survey feedback letters to schools

Each year, the Chief Inspector agrees our programme of survey work with the Department for Education and the Department for Business Innovation and Skills.

These surveys look in depth at particular subjects in schools, colleges and other learning environments on a national scale.

To find out as much as we can, we make subject visits to schools. After one of these, we always send the school a feedback letter telling them our judgement on their overall effectiveness in the subject. The letter also tells the school how they are doing on pupils’ achievement, the quality of teaching, the quality of the curriculum, and leadership and management.

You can find our latest subject feedback letters below. Since Autumn 2012 we only carry out subject visits for English and maths.
