Children’s centres provide a range of services for children and their families. They have been set up in stages from 2004, starting with the most disadvantaged communities. Between July and September 2009 Ofsted consulted on the proposed framework for the inspection of children’s centres. This report gives the results of the consultation and our proposed way forward.
This small-scale survey evaluated the impact of National Strategy approaches to intervention on pupils working just below national expectations in a small sample of 12 primary and nine secondary schools. Intervention was more effective in the primary schools than in the secondary schools visited and stemmed from careful analysis of pupils’ weaknesses, flexible planning of programmes, thorough training of key staff and effective monitoring and evaluation. Good leadership and management contributed to the successful impact.
An inspection of service provision by the Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service (Cafcass) to children and families in the Birmingham and the Black Country service area.
The Birmingham and the Black Country service area provides services to children and families in Birmingham, Solihull, Sandwell, Dudley, Wolverhampton and Walsall.
This inspection was carried out as part of a programme piloting a new inspection framework.

Cafcass Lancashire and Cumbria service area provides services to children and families in Blackburn with Darwen, Blackpool, Cumbria and Lancashire.

The post-inspection review letter
This letter contains the findings of the final post-inspection review of Cafcass South-East region carried out by Ofsted. The inspection was carried out in November and December 2007 when the region comprised Kent, Surrey, East Sussex and West Sussex. This was prior to the restructure of Cafcass into 21 service areas from April 2008. The South East region is now comprised of service areas S4 (Kent) and S5 (Sussex and Surrey).
