The development of new inspection frameworks
09 Mar 2009
In April 2007 the new Ofsted brought together thirty-nine different regulatory and inspection systems, each with its own processes, and although many of these were similar, there was significant variation in how we inspected across the various remits.
We have reviewed our practices and produced a framework to promote improvement in the services we inspect, improve engagement with providers and users, provide greater consistency and integration to our inspection and regulation and target inspection resources where they will have the greatest impact.
The framework - Ofsted inspects - draws on best practice from across Ofsted and will provide a consistent and coherent approach to our work.
Ofsted inspects sets out the principles of inspection and regulation and the overarching arrangements for all Ofsted inspections including the judgements that inspectors will make.
Currently new inspection arrangements for schools, colleges, work-based learning, nextstep and Cafcass are being piloted and each of these is based on the Ofsted inspects framework.
As arrangements for the other elements of our work are developed they too will be based on the framework.
