A new framework for residential family centres

20 Mar 2013

Today, Ofsted has published its revised framework for the inspection of residential family centres.

To align the framework with the Department for Education’s amended residential family centre regulations and new national minimum standards – published last week – Ofsted consulted on nine proposed changes between July and October last year. Following pilot inspections in November 2012, you can now find the full consultation response on our website.

Families’ experiences will be central to the new inspections. The framework is outcomes based; staff and managers will notice a greater emphasis on the quality of assessments as well as a focus on outcomes for families.

In the light of this, families can now give Ofsted their views directly as, this year, residential family centres are included in the annual social care questionnaires for the first time. The 2013 questionnaires are open throughout April and May for parents and carers, children and young people, staff, professionals and other interested parties to tell Ofsted what they think of their social care services.

The new framework and evaluation schedule take effect from April 2013.
