Sir Michael Wilshaw, Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector (HMCI), wrote to the Rt Hon Michael Gove MP, Secretary of State for Education on 9 June 2014. In this advice note he advised him of the findings from inspections of 21 schools in Birmingham between 5 March 2014 and 1 May 2014.

A later advice note to the Rt Hon Nicky Morgan MP, Secretary of State for Education, published on 8 July 2016, highlighted HMCI’s continuing concerns about the performance of Birmingham City Council.
