This Annual Report presents evidence from inspection and regulatory visits undertaken between September 2011 and August 2012 by the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills (Ofsted). We take evidence from inspection activity across the full range of Ofsted’s statutory remit, which includes early years and childcare, provision for education and skills in schools, colleges and adult learning, children’s social care and local authority services for children.

The report on social care will be published in June, because the inspection year for most social care provision, prescribed by regulations, runs from April to March. Publishing in June will also give us a full year’s evidence under the several significant framework changes that we introduced in January.

We have also published three additional reports on schools, early years, and learning and skills: links are below under 'Related resources'.

Alongside the Annual Report we publish our annual list of Outstanding Providers where you can check the outstanding provision for each local authority area.

Today, we also launch Data View, a new digital tool that enables users to compare the performance of providers over time from Ofsted inspections across England by region, local authority and constituency area. We release official statistics about inspection outcomes quarterly during the year, including a release to accompany the Annual Report.
