Attendance in secondary schools

Ofsted undertook a survey of attendance in 31 secondary schools in the summer and autumn terms 2006. Ofsted and the Department for Education and Skills were concerned about 351 secondary schools whose overall absence or unauthorised absence rates were unsatisfactory. The survey evaluated the impact of the National Strategy in promoting attendance and identified critical factors in reducing and preventing attendance problems in secondary schools.
