Inspection judgements 2008/09 for maintained schools

24 Nov 2009 Ofsted

These workbooks present inspection judgements for all inspections carried out in academic year 2008/09. They include inspection judgements from section 5, or section 8 deemed 5, inspections during the 2008/09 academic year including all inspections piloting the new arrangements which came into operation in September 2009. Inspectors make judgements either on a four point scale (1 = outstanding, 2 = good, 3 = satisfactory, 4 = inadequate) or answer ‘yes’ or ‘no’. A new analytical tool is provided to assist users in analysing the data.

There are eight Excel workbooks that you can download as two compressed zip files. The first zip file contains three workbooks. Two of the workbooks contain inspection judgements at school level. These bring together individual inspection judgements included in each inspection report, and provide an overall summary of the inspection outcomes over the 2008/09 year. Also included is an excel-based analytical tool, designed to help you analyse the outcomes of inspections which took place between 1 September 2005 and 31 August 2009.

The five workbooks in the second zip file contain inspection judgements by phase shown as percentages. Additionally, there are further breakdowns for the main inspection judgements for primary and secondary schools by free school meal eligibility and by school size, a breakdown by specialism for secondary schools, post 16 judgements for secondary schools and Early Years Foundation Stage judgements across all phases.

In future maintained school inspection outcomes will be published on a termly basis with the following timetable:

  • autumn data on the second Wednesday in March*

  • spring data on the third Wednesday in June

  • summer data on the third Wednesday in November, unless this falls before the publication of the Annual Report in which case the data will be published at the same time as the Annual Report.

If you have any further queries please email inspectioninsight@ofsted.gov.uk.

*The official statistics about the outcomes of maintained school inspections taking place during the autumn term 2009 will be published at 9.30am on 10 March 2010. The publication date has been brought forward to improve the timeliness of these statistics and to ensure that the statistical reports are released as soon as they are judged to be ready. It is anticipated that future release dates will also reflect improved timeliness.
