This overview report is based on the nursery education inspections of a cohort of private, voluntary and independent institutions between February 1998 and March 1999. The institutions had previously been inspected between September 1996 and March 1998. Ofsted’s registered nursery inspectors had judged that the provision was acceptable in promoting the desirable outcomes, but that there were weaknesses that needed to be tackled without delay. Those judgements led inspectors to recommend that the next inspections should take place in one to two years.
