In 1998, the Government brought together a panel of experts to provide advice on education for sustainable development (ESD), in particular, to recommend what action should be taken in schools to promote ESD. Ofsted visited 14 primary, two middle and 10 secondary schools in order to identify the characteristics of good practice in ESD.
